A Stop in Salina

by in A Grand Getaway, Travel

After a long day of driving, we stopped for the evening in Salina. For those of you uninitiated in Salina, it’s a smallish city in the heart of Kansas, surrounded by lots of farmland. I probably wouldn’t even mention the stop, but a funny thing happened when I was in a store picking up a few things. The cashier took one look at me, and said, “You look like a guy in the know. I’ll bet I know what you do.” Curious, I responded, “Oh really? What’s that?” Without missing a beat, he answered, “You’re in Information Technology.” “Yes! How did you know that?!?” I asked, to which he responded, “You’re so white. You look like you work indoors all day.” Apparently, I stuck out like a sore thumb in the land of farmer’s tans.

Spoiler Alert: Not to ruin the ending or anything, but after a week of being outdoors a lot during this trip, I was still as white as a ghost…or an I.T. worker, as the case may be.
