A Grand Time in Grand Lake

by in A Grand Getaway, Travel

We arrived in Grand Lake on Monday evening for our week-long stay. The town of Grand Lake is a small town nestled high in the mountains (elevation 8,369 feet) on the shores of Colorado’s largest natural lake, Grand Lake. It sits at the western entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park, and adjacent to two other lakes, Shadow Mountain Lake, and Lake Granby. All I can say is it’s gorgeous here!

We rented a beautiful vacation home just outside of town for the week. The view from the deck was simply amazing, both day and night. I loved gazing over Shadow Mountain Lake and gawking at Mount Craig (affectionately referred to locally as “Mount Baldy”). It was so relaxing!

The town itself is very small, and postcard-perfect. The main street is lined with cute little shops, and has the feel of a trading post, true to its heritage. One of my favorite stores was Polly’s Sweet Shop. I may have frequented it on more than one occasion… The owner remembered me, and also remembered what I had ordered!

And of course there’s the lake…but I’ll save that for another post.
