Our Mountain Hideaway

by in Finding Winter, Travel

When I was planning this trip, I wanted to find a cabin in the woods where we could just relax and enjoy the winter scenery. I found it. :-)  We’re staying at the Cabins at Hartland Ranch. Now, the word “cabin” may have you thinking of some cold, dark little shack.  Our “cabin” couldn’t be further from that! It’s one of the nicest places I’ve ever stayed, and it’s built better than my own house! We love all the windows which let in the natural light, but somehow still keep out the cold (a trick the builder of my own house somehow didn’t master).

But even better than the cabin itself (if that’s possible) is the location. We’re only 5 minutes out of town, but somehow it feels a million miles away.  We feel so secluded here. It’s calm and peaceful, with only the sound of the wind rustling through the trees. It feels like there isn’t a soul around for miles. And at night, it’s so amazingly dark. On a cloudless night, the stars shine brilliantly.

One of the best parts about this trip has been just sitting by the fireplace with my feet kicked up, gazing out the window at the winter wonderland outside. It’s been so relaxing. I definitely plan on coming back here again, every chance I get!
